Fall Armyworm: Impacts and Implications for Africa Data 2018

This dataset was collected to produce the report Fall Armyworm: Impacts and Implications for Africa, 2018. The data was collected via household surveys conducted in Ghana, Zambia and Zimbabwe in 2018 using the Open Data Kit (ODK) data collection tool on tablets.

Data collected includes:

  • Demographics of farming households
  • Fall armyworm field infestation levels
  • Maize area affected by fall armyworm
  • Effect on maize yield
  • Current control method including gender split, pesticides used and their cost and effectiveness
Further reports used producing this data include:
  • Farmer perception of fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiderda J.E. Smith) and farm-level management practices in Zambia (Kansiime et al., 2019)
